Mary Michael Leahy
Ordained:
Deacon 2020
Mary Michael Leahy is a spiritual director and deacon in the RCWP movement. She received her M.Div. at Boston College School of Theology and Ministry (BA from Boston College) and her certification in Franciscan Spiritual Direction from St. Anthony's Shrine in Boston. She has had a long history of service to the marginalized, involvement in and teaching of contemplative prayer and lay liturgical leadership and religious education. Service began in Seattle WA for two years as a member of the Jesuit Volunteer Corps working for Catholic Charities as a case manager for marginalized elders. That was followed by a long career in home health care delivery and a stint in real estate after marrying her husband, Manley and raising a daughter and a stepson and daughter. During that time she also participated in many parish activities: parish pastoral council, evangelization committee chair, religious education, and presider at the spiritual and theological inquiry group. After a two year internship with MANNA, an Episcopal Cathedral ministry to serve the homeless, Mary was hired as Facilitator and Co-Convener of BACHome, a partnership between the mayor of Boston and homeless partners to eradicate homelessness in that city. A longtime member of the Women's Ordination Conference, Mary is preparing for ordination to RCWP priesthood. Her particular ministerial interests are: women's and embodied spirituality, outreach to non-practicing Catholics, pastoral care and charity to society's marginalized and spiritual direction.
